ABOUT:
Scott is a highly qualified and experienced civil trial lawyer who is admitted to practice in all Florida state and federal courts and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeal. Following his graduation magna cum laude from Troy University in 2004, he attended the Florida State University College of Law and joined Coppins Monroe upon graduating in 2008. Scott quickly distinguished himself as an associate attorney and his exceptional work led to his promotion to equity shareholder in 2014.

Scott represents private and governmental clients in all areas of civil litigation—with an emphasis in the areas of civil rights and constitutional law, employment discrimination and retaliation, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and tort actions of all kinds.

Constitutional claim experience under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 includes First Amendment (defense of preliminary injunctions and suits concerning speech, association, retaliation, and the Establishment Clause), Fourth Amendment (excessive force, false arrest, unlawful search and seizure), Eighth Amendment (deliberate indifference/medical deliberate indifference), Fourteenth Amendment (procedural and substantive due process), Fifth Amendment (takings), and more. Employment experience includes representation of clients before the EEOC/FCHR and in litigation concerning all manner of employment discrimination and retaliation claims (race, age, sex, color, religion, disability, etc.) as well as whistleblower, workers’ compensation and FMLA retaliation claims, and general advice and counsel regarding HR policies and procedures. Tort experience includes negligence, personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, premise liability, defamation, intentional torts, property damage, and many more. Business experience includes representing clients with formation, dissolution, contracting, and other business disputes/issues of all kinds.

Scott also has extensive experience representing clients at the appellate level which includes both briefing and oral advocacy before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, Florida’s First District Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Florida (briefing only), as both appellant and appellee.

In addition to his litigation experience, Scott is a lecturer and trainer on issues of tort liability, sovereign immunity, and constitutional law. He has conducted internal employee investigations and drafted/revised, contracts, business policies and procedures, employee handbooks, and more.

Scott has two children, Aryana and Lucas.
